 DRESS CODE POLICY

Please note:  East and West Campus Kindergarten through Grade 6 uniform polo shirts, ties, and sweatshirts are available for purchase in the school office. Order forms are available. Other items may be purchased at the retailer of your choice.

GIRLS – Kindergarten through Grade 6

Jumpers and Skorts

  • Girls in all grades may wear a navy or khaki jumper or skort.
  • Jumpers and skorts must be a reasonably modest length.
       Examples of approved jumpers are:
  •       Land’s End-Navy Jumper #068175 & #068176
  •      Walmart- George Girl’s Pleated Jumper
      (This is not a complete list, just easy-to-find suggestions.)

Pants/Shorts

  • Dress pants, navy or khaki, “docker style” trousers.
  • Low riders, skinny pants, cargo pants, and leggings are not dress pants and are not permitted.
  • No decorations of any kind may be worn on pants – i.e. rivets, patches, embroidery, jewels, etc.
  • If a belt is worn, it must be solid black, brown, navy, or white with no decorations.
  • In warmer months, girls may wear navy or khaki uniform shorts.
  • Shorts must be knee length.
  • Cargo style shorts are not permitted.
  • The same guidelines for uniform pants apply for uniform shorts.

Dress Shirts

  • White, oxford-style or rounded collar, short or long sleeved shirts may be worn by girls year round and required for Mass days.
  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Shirts must be long enough to remain tucked in while seated or when hand is raised.
  • Undergarments underneath shirts must be appropriately colored and have no writing – i.e. girls should wear white or beige garments under their blouses.

Polos

  • Only the red polo with the Divine Mercy logo is permitted.
  • Polos, both short and long sleeve options, are available for order in the school office.

Mass Day/Dress Uniform

  • White dress shirt and jumper, skort, or pant with dress shoes and socks. See individual headings for descriptions.
  • No polos may be worn on Mass days.

Sweaters

  • Girls in all grades may wear solid navy, white, or gray cardigan, crewneck, v-neck, and vests as weather dictates.
  • Only uniform DMCA crewneck sweatshirts are acceptable.
  • Not acceptable: Hoodies, hooded sweatshirts, and zip-ups. These items may be worn to and from school and at recess, but may not be worn during class.

Socks

  • Socks must be solid white, gray, navy blue, black, or khaki.
  • Solid navy or white tights may be worn with jumpers.
  • Ankle, crew, or knee socks are preferred.

 Shoes

  • Girls in all grades must wear shades of black, blue, or brown dress shoes year round.
  • No variation of athletic, sneaker, or tennis shoes or shoes with decorations.
  • Heels must be no higher than 1 inch.
  • Preferred styles of shoes are loafers, mary-janes, and ballet flats.
  • No flip flops, high heels, slippers, sandals, crocs, athletic shoes, open-heel shoes, or boots of any kind may be worn during school hours.
  • Shoestrings must be solid navy, white, brown, or black.

Make-up, Hair, Jewelry

  • Earrings may be worn in earlobes ONLY. Earrings must be small; for safety reasons no large hoops or dangles.
  • No make-up of any kind or tattoos permitted.
  • No unnatural coloring of hair is permitted.
  • Other jewelry may be worn in moderation – i.e. one bracelet, watch, necklace, etc.

GYM CLOTHES

  • Students in grades K-6 will wear gym attire to school on their designated gym day.
  • TOPS: any red DMCA T-shirt, a uniform red polo shirt, or purchase a new DMCA red T-Shirt.
  • BOTTOMS: plain black shorts—no logos (to be worn during the months of August, Septembers, October, April, May); or plain black sweatpants (open bottom, no logos/ stripes); or purchase DMCA logo shorts and/or sweatpants.

Dress Down/Up Days

  • Sandals are not permitted.
  • Blue jeans are permitted on dress down days only as long as they are not low riding and have no holes.
  • Athletic shoes are permitted on dress down days but no sandals or flip flops.
  • T-shirts must have appropriate logos – no offensive or suggestive language.
  • Leggings can only be worn by girls as long as an appropriate length skirt or shirt is worn over top that covers the thighs.

In all cases, the Administration reserves the right to determine and curtail unacceptable articles of dress and hair style.

 

BOYS – Kindergarten through Grade 6

Pants

  • Dress, navy or khaki, “docker-style” pants may be worn by boys in all grades year round.
  • Pants must be navy blue or khaki.
  • No cargo pants are permitted.
  • If a belt is worn, it must be solid black, brown, navy, or white with no decorations.
  • No skinny pants, cargo pants, jeans, rivets, leggings, bell bottoms, painter pants, or cuffs are permitted.

Shorts

  • In warmer months, boys may wear navy or khaki dress shorts.
  • Shorts must be knee-length.
  • Cargo style shorts are not permitted.
  • The same guidelines that are stated for pants also apply to shorts.
  • Shorts are permitted. (Usually in September, October, April, May, and June.)

Dress Shirts

  • White, oxford-style collar, short or long-sleeved shirts may be worn by boys year round but must be worn for Mass days.
  • Boys must have their top buttons and collars buttoned at all times.
  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
  • Shirts must be long enough to remain tucked in while seated or when hand is raised.
  • Undergarments under shirts must be appropriately colored and have no writing. – i.e. Boys should wear white undergarments.

Ties

  • Boys in grades K-6 must wear a tie.
  • Boys must wear a navy blue, full-length standard tie.
  • Ties, including clip on style must be tied at top of neck at all times.
  • Ties may be purchased in the school office.

Polos

  • Only polo permitted is the official embroidered red polo with the Divine Mercy logo. Polos may be ordered through the school office in short or long sleeve styles.

Mass Day/Dress Uniform

  • Dress shirt, tie, and pants with dress shoes and socks. See individual headings for descriptions. No polos may be worn on Mass days.

  • Only DMCA uniform crewneck sweatshirts are acceptable.
  • Hoodies, hooded sweatshirts and zip-ups are not acceptable. These items may be worn as a coat to and from school and at recess, but may not be worn during class.

  • Ankle and crew socks are preferred.

  • No variations of athletic, sneaker, or tennis shoes with lettering and/or striping will be permitted. No boots of any kind may be worn during school hours.
  • Sandals are not permitted. (This includes dress down days.)
  • Shoestrings must be solid navy, white, brown, or black.

Make-up, Hair, Jewelry

  • Absolutely no make-up of any kind or tattoos are permitted.
  • Hair should be neatly trimmed, conservative in style (no Mohawks or other faddish styles), and natural in color. No hair coloring. It is not to touch the shirt collar and not be past the student’s eyebrows.
  • Earrings are not permitted for boys.
  • Other jewelry may be worn in moderation – i.e. one bracelet, watch, necklace, etc.

  • Athletic shoes are permitted on dress down days. Sandals and flip flops are not permitted.
  • T-shirts must have appropriate logos – no offensive or suggestive language.
  • Tight fitting or excessively baggy clothing is not acceptable.

In all cases, the Administration reserves the right to determine and curtail unacceptable articles of dress and hair style.

Dress Code Middle School Students, Grades 7 and 8

The dress code provides a standard for our students that fosters an environment conducive to learning and respectful behavior. Final decisions regarding the school uniform rest with the administration.
All uniforms must be neat and clean. Tight, ill-fitting, and/or oversized clothing is not permitted. All clothing should be labeled with the student’s name.

Students must be in complete uniform or appropriately dressed during school hours or when representing Bishop McCort Catholic High School/DMCA Middle School in any public forum.

BOYS – Grades  7 and 8

1. White or blue oxford-style dress shirt with button down collar (long or short sleeve). Shirts must be completely tucked in. “Blousing,” folding up, or tucking in only the corners will not be allowed. T-shirts worn under the uniform shirt must be solid white. DMCA Middle School students have the option to wear DMCA red polo shirt.

2. Tie of student’s choice (selected ties must be in good taste, may not extend below the waist, or be excessively short). The tie is to be properly tied and snug against the neck. Bowties are acceptable.

3. Grade 7-11: Dark blue or khaki docker-style dress pants. Pants must be neat and worn appropriately at the waist with a belt and need to include a distinct hem. No cargo pants, rivets, bell bottoms, jeans, painter pants, cuffs, or pants with externally stitched pockets are permitted.

4. Students may wear the approved navy 1/4 zip sweatshirt or tan or blue vest with the embroidered logo. DMCA Middle School Students may also wear red DMCA crewneck sweatshirt. These items are available for purchase from the Business Office. All other sweatshirts, jackets, hoodies, and windbreakers are not permitted during the school day.

5. Socks and black, brown, gray, or navy blue dress shoes. No variation of athletic, sneaker, or tennis shoes with lettering and/or striping will be permitted. No boots of any kind may be worn during school hours. All dress shoes must be black, brown, gray, or navy blue as their primary color, with little to no variation in additional colors.

6. Hair should be neatly trimmed and conservative in style, and natural in color. It is not to touch the shirt collar, not be past the student’s eyebrows, and not excessively over the ears. Young men must be clean shaven; mustaches and beards are not permissible. Sideburns may not extend below the ear lobe. All hats must be removed upon entering the building.

7. Tattoos must be covered, including at school events/athletic competitions. Earrings and pierced body jewelry, including the tongue, are not permitted. No allowance will be made for new piercings (i.e., no spacers or Band-Aids).

Girls – Grades 7 and 8

1. White or blue oxford-style dress shirt (long or short sleeve). Shirts must be completely tucked in. “Blousing,” folding up, or tucking in only the corners will not be allowed. Under garments/T-shirts worn under the uniform shirt must be solid white. Women’s shirts are to be worn with no more than one button unbuttoned at the neck. DMCA Middle School students have the option to wear DMCA red polo shirt.

2. Grade 7 -11: Dark blue or khaki docker-style dress pants. Pants must be neat, fit properly (not too tight), and worn appropriately at the waist with a belt and need to include a distinct hem. No skinny pants, cargo pants, jeans, rivets, leggings, bell bottoms, painter pants, cuffs, or pants with externally stitched pockets are permitted.

3. Students may wear the approved navy 1/4 zip sweatshirt or cardigan, or tan or blue vest with the embroidered logo. DMCA Middle School Students may also wear red DMCA crewneck sweatshirt. These items are available for purchase from the Business Office. All other sweatshirts, jackets, hoodies, and windbreakers are not permitted during the school day.

4. Black, brown, gray, or navy blue dress shoes with no higher than one-inch heel are required. No high heels, slippers, sandals, clogs, athletic shoes, open-heel shoes, or boots of any kind may be worn during school hours. All dress shoes must be black, brown, gray, or navy blue as their primary color, with little to no variation in additional colors.

5. Make-up must be natural and conservatively used. Hairstyles must be neat and becoming; hair color must be natural looking. All hats must be removed upon entering the building.

6. Tattoos must be covered, including at school events/athletic competitions. Jewelry should be in good taste. No dangling, hoop, or multiple earrings are allowed to be worn. With the exception of girls’ earrings, no pierced body jewelry, including the tongue, are permitted. No allowance will be made for new piercings (i.e., no spacers or Band-Aids).

Dress Code 2018-19: Footwear

To help guide you, the administration has put together an Approved Dress Shoe list and a Non-Approved Shoe list. Below are pictures of both approved and non-approved footwear. It is impossible to put all shoes on this list so if you have any questions about if shoes would be approved or not please e-mail the administration. All dress shoes must be black, brown, gray, or navy blue as their primary color, with little to no variation in additional colors.
